A Brief Description of Rudraksha Beads

The term Rudraksha comprises two words, the word Rudra stands for Lord Shiva, and Aksha, which means teardrops. Legend has it that tears from Lord Shiva fell on earth and trees grew there into Rudraksha trees. The tree is mostly found in India, Nepal, Myanmar, Java, Sumatra, and Indonesia. Rudraksha is considered Lord Shiva’s blessing to protect mankind from every misery.

 

Types of Rudraksha Beads, Ruling God and Planet of different Mukhis

There are 21 types of Rudraksha beads available that grow on the tree. Each type has a different number of vertical lines, called Mukhi, running down the surface of the bead. Among the 21 faces, the commonly found Mukhis range from 1 to 14. Mukhis with 22 or more vertical lines are rare to find and there is no mention of them in ancient texts. No research has been done yet to find out their properties.
